A. Generally
All basal textbooks used in the school district shall be uniform county wide, shall be recommended by the superintendent and shall be adopted by the school board in accordance with regulations of the State Board of Education.
B. Adoption Process
The county board of education shall, upon the recommendation of the county superintendent with the aid of a committee of teachers, principals, and a group of parental community members selected from the county LSIC's not to exceed 15 members and not later than the first day of May of any adoption year, select from the State Multiple List one book or series of books for each subject and grade to be used as an exclusive basal textbook in the county's elementary and secondary schools for a period of six years. School curriculum teams shall make their curriculum and instructional needs known to the selection committee as part of the adoption process.
After the county board of education has adopted the basal textbooks for use in the county, and not later than May fifteenth, the county superintendent shall send to the State Board of Education a complete list of books properly certified by the president of the county board of education in such form as the State Board of Education shall prescribe.
The advisory group shall not number more than the number of teachers/administrators on the committee.
C. Textbook Adoption Groupings
EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION, MIDDLE CHILDHOOD EDUCATION, AND ADOLESCENT EDUCATION
The establishment of groupings and periods for adoption complies with West Virginia Code 18-2A-1, Adoption of Textbooks, Instructional Materials and Learning Technologies. The West Virginia Instructional Materials Advisory Review Committee, acting as a total body, is expected to select "textbooks" (instructional materials) for each group for recommendation to be approved and published in the yearly Official State Multiple List of Instructional Materials.
