THE PRESTON COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION ADOPTED THE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES FOR SCHOOL BOARD EFFECTIVENESS.
LINKS WITH LOCAL SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT COUNCILS
The Board of Education will meet annually with representatives of the LSIC for each school. Each LSIC will have the opportunity to make a presentation that includes, but is not limited to, school goals and accomplishments, overview of educational programs, and school needs.
RELATIONSHIPS WITH THE COMMUNITY AT LARGE
Board of Education meetings will be conducted according to requirements established in West Virginia law whenever possible, board meetings will be held at school locations throughout the county in order to make the meetings more accessible to members of the public.
BOARD POLICIES
A copy of the county policy manual will be maintained in the Superintendent's office and will be available for inspection and review by members of the public. A copy of the policy manual will also be available at each school for use and inspection by staff and community members. An archive file of amended and eliminated policies will be developed and maintained.
OVERSIGHT, ACCOUNTABILITY, LONG-RANGE PLANS
The Board of Education will provide oversight of the operation of the school system through the establishment of board policies and long range system-wide goals. Accountability for enforcement of policies, state laws, and regulations will be placed with the Superintendent, county staff, and school administrators.
DECISION MAKING
Information and data needed for effective decision-making will be provided by the Superintendent and administrative staff. When appropriate, board members may participate in discussion groups, staff training sessions, open forum meetings, and public hearings.
